Certainly it’s easier to turn some ideologies into totalitarian states, while others fit better with open societies. I think you might be overreaching though: while the Marxist-Leninist ideals are more conducive to totalitarianism than liberal democratic ideals, I would bet we can do a lot better than liberal democratic ideals. That there are other ideals which will tend towards much more open societies than we have now.
